Meet Rue. His father is Thalictrum and the common name for that flower is Meadow-Rue so we named him that after his sire. We are calling him Rue for short. He has a beautiful first freshening dam who can be seen below. That little doe has massive potential so we are eager to watch her freshen again in the future and see the udders this gorgeous boy can produce here too.

Rue has been with us for a few months now. He is growing and maturing beautifully. He is extremely skittish but his drive to breed has made him so much easier to handle. He waits at the gate now and allows me to take his collar to be taken to the breeding pen and sometimes for walks on lead. I'm very pleased with the way he's changed his demeanor. He is still flighty but better now.

A bit about chocolate coloring for those who are not familiar with it. Chocolate coloring is dominant but not on the body pattern locus. Istead, chocolate body coloring only affects the parts of the body that are black. For example. If its a solid black goat genetically and it received the dominant chocolate gene then the goat would be solid chocolate. But if the goat receives chamoise like Rue did and the chocolate gene as well. Then the goat would be normal chamoise coloring, but the dorsel stripe and legs that would normally be black would be chocolate. So Rue can pass down his chocolate body coloring to his kids. About 50/50 chance. We also have a few chocolate does, Potsie and Anna and they both are currently bred to Rue so there is a much higher percentage of chocolate kids possible with this breeding.

Blue-eyes

At the Carrollton, GA show April 27th, 2007 I got to see Morning Glory kid. Her udder was GORGEOUS. She is a gorgeous gold doe with blue-eyes. I was so impressed with her udder that I felt Larkspur would be a great asset to our farm. So here he is.
Morning Glory's photo below does her no justice. She has excellent attachments, huge well placed teats and loads of capacity. She was not full in those photos, but was drying off from weaning her twins. It is posted just to give you an idea of his dam's udder.
Update on Larkspur. I must say that this buck steadily improves as he ages and impresses me over and over again. He was always nice to begin with, but look at the rear leg set he's developing! I do believe he will be a wonderful show buck let alone the attributes we hope he passes onto his offspring. I am hoping to get my first Lark babies on the ground by the summer or fall of 2008. Check back often for updates on his breedings and development.

Polled & Moonspotted

I can't begin to express how excited I am to be able to bring some of the fabulous Kids Corral blood into my herd!!Just take a look at their website and you will see why. This gorgeous buck is the grandson of the wonderful Arianna on his dam's side. Mind you his dam, Selene, is just a first freshener! Luzifer is his grandsire on his dam's side too. His sire Tenor is the son of Patches! Scroll down to the linked pedigree to see each of these goats I've mentioned. I know he will improve my herd greatly and I can hardly stand the wait to use him on my does!

I have been trying to decide on a name for this handsome fellow and all I can think of when I look at his sire's initials PT is PT Cruiser so that might just be his name. Cool name for a cool buck! I do think Cruise or Cruiser would suit him very well for a call name as well.
When I saw him at the Gwinnett, GA goat show in September I noticed his width throughout and level top line. I have admired the Kids Corral goats for a while now so I was absolutely thrilled to bring this buck into my herd. Not to mention he's also polled and moonspotted. So those are just icing on the cake. I am anxious to see some of his first kids in 2008.
