SWEET GUM MINIS
Nigerian Dwarf & Mini-Mancha Dairy Goats

Previously Owned Does
7-29-10

All does below we have owned. They are listed here because their offspring have either been sold or still reside in our herd. Hard decisions have to be made when you want to keep your own kids, otherwise the herd will double or triple too fast. So we have to let some of them go. Here they are and we miss them all!
Please ask before using our photos. Thanks!

Click her photos above to see her reference page. We got Faith at just over 2 years old as an unproven doe. We had no idea the potential she had though we felt she was something special from the start. Faith freshened with a beautifully attached udder but she was dried just 5 weeks after kidding due to her doeling passing of silent pneumonia. Faith freshened in 2008 with quadruplets and produced the fantastic udder we dreamed of. We kept both her daughter and son of her surviving quads. In 2009 she produced triplets and this is her udder pictured above from this freshening. We retained both daughters. Faith has now moved on to a good goat friend's farm. She will be sorely missed but she has left a wonderful legacy in our own herd with a son, 3 daughters and several grandkids. See them below...

Caesar's Villa PB Baby Barbie

Photos property of Sweet Gum Minis.

DOB: 8-3-02 Owned: April '08 - May '09
Sire: MCH Caesar's Villa STS Pat Brady *S Dam: Caesar's Villa PN Ballernina 2*D

We purchased Barbie in the spring of 2008. I have a lot of Caesar's Villa goats in our herd and we felt we couldn't go wrong with adding Barbie to the herd too. She is a very angular doe with loads of body capacity. My faults with Barbie were her shoulders mainly and her steep rump. Otherwise she is very dairy and has a gorgeous udder. I'm sorry that I didn't get decent pictures of it while she was here. The ones above will have to do. She has excellent attachments, capacity, nice medial, height in the rear udder and a smooth foreudder. I have retained her daughter by Caesar's Villa P Stedman *S to our herd.

DOB: 3-12-06 Owned: Oct '06 - May '08
Sire: Green Gate Golden Oak Dam: Kaapio Acres KK Blackberry

Height:  approximately 19"

I bought Blossom when she was about 6 months old. We really liked this doe's udder and quiet demeanor. We retained her 2007 daughter Nottie, which was an improvement over her dam. This year we retained her red chamoise daughter Raven and are looking forward to seeing what Rue can do to improve Blossom's teat size. Blossom is a very sound doe who will make a great foundation doe.

DOB: 5-30-04 Owned: Jan '07 - May '08
Sire: Milky Whey's Tommy Toes Dam: Doublegate PAL Peanut Brittle

Height:  approximately 20"

Petite was a doe I bought from a friend knowing she wasn't a milker. Well I wasn't milking at the time so the match was great. As our herd goals have changed so has her position in the herd. So a choice had to be made and we decided it was time for Petite to move on. She is not a milker by any means. She is an excellent brood doe and has a beautiful udder so she will definitely be productive. We have retained her 2008 daughter Gwen by Cruiser.

Potsie is a gorgeous friendly doe. She has a huge productive udder which I was pleased to see. She isn't a large doe so it shocked me when she produced quadruplets. She and I had personality clashes so therefore it was time for her to move on though. I retained her daughter by Rue, Secrets, to continue her line in my herd.

DOB: 3-5-05 Owned: Sep '07 - Aug '08
Sire: Buttin'Heads Galziping Ghost *S Dam: Buttin'Heads Too Deutsch Polka

Height:

Contredanse has a much prettier udder, in my opinion, than Potsie's from the rear but Potsie more than surpasses Contredanse on the side profile. Contredanse and I got along much better, but our herd grew too large for our plans so I had to make some hard decisions. In order to keep some of my own kids I had to let some of the adult does go. I have retained her daughter Cha-Cha to our herd.

Better Blues HR Anna's Hera

Photos property of Sweet Gum Minis.

DOB: 1-12-07 Owned: Apr '07 - Oct '08
Sire: Lacados JD My He-Roe Dam: CH Camanna WR Oceana

Height:

I was on the waiting list at Better Blues for a doe kid out of Oceana. I had to remove my reservation at one point and later when I looked again she had a long like for doelings out of her. So when Oceana kidded I jumped at the opportunity to buy her only buckling of quads. See Zeus for more. I was so thrilled to be able to get him. Then a reservation fell through on one of the doelings and that doeling is Hera. I of course said, "yes she's mine." So I was thrilled to add an Oceana daughter and son to my herd. Hera was wild and timid when she got here. She didn't really change much until after kidding with her doeling Olympia. Olympia is a bold individual and so friendly that it helped to encourage Hera to be curious about us. Hera freshened with a very nice udder. We decided to keep her daughter and let her move on in hopes of being able to show Olympia. We never did get a decent photo of Hera because of her timid personality towards being handled. I never tried after Olympia was born though.

Little Tot's Estate Minuet

Photos property of Sweet Gum Minis.
Left: Minuet as a junior. Middle & Right: Minuet's 2nd freshening in 2009.

DOB: 10-23-06 Owned: Feb '07 - May '09
Sire: Woodhaven Farms Rand McNally Dam: Little Tot's Estate Weigelia

The thing that sold me on Minuet as a kid was he excellent rear end. She has the widest rear end and flattest rump I'd seen on such a young kid. So she had to come home with me. Her flash and blue-eyes were just icing on the cake. Minuet freshened for the first time in February 2008 with triplets. She had a gorgeous udder which was beautifully attached. She did an excellent job taking care of her three babies and had the longest teats I'd seen on a first freshener! I was eager to see her second freshening! Minuet didn't disappoint! Her second freshening was March 2009 where she again had triplets and gained the capacity shown above. She continued to have a beautiful udder with excellent attachments, teats and shape. She could use a better medial ligament, but other than that she's wonderful! Minuet's main flaw for me was her feet and legs. She was not as strait as I prefer my does to be. She was uphill and much sharper shouldered as a yearling than the body picture above depicted. She really changed her look from a pudgy junior to a refined dairy yearling. Beautiful doe.
